Workshops are developed to enhance the adult learning experience with clearly stated goals, library-related examples, hands-on activities, and a downloadable handout in PDF format. They are designed to be self-paced, with learners able to pause, exit, and renter the workshop where they left off. The learner needs only an Internet connection and a recent browser.The workshops are not just PowerPoint presentations, but are narrated and include screencasting — actual movies illustrating the use of software and/or examples in resources.“Essentials” series workshops provide all the information needed to get started and gain some proficiency with the topic.

Developing Online Just-In-Time Reference Tools: The Essentials

This workshop will spark your imagination and introduce you to the what, why, and how of blogs, rss, podcasting in libraries, and communication with users via tools such as Skype. Examples of what other libraries are creating are included.

 


Photoshop Elements 3.0/4.0: The Essentials

photoshopelbox.gifThis workshop introduces you to Photoshop Elements, whether you use version 3.0 or 4.0. It focuses on the basics for those relatively new to digital photo editing. Learn how to crop, reduce red-eye, rotate, and straighten photos, and how to correct color, light, and sharpness. The workshop also illustrates how to prepare a photo for publishing on the web, how to add captions to photos, and includes printing tips and available printing services. Similarities and differences between versions 3.0 and 4.0 are highlighted. Practice photos are included.

Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional: The Essentials

The “how to” for Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional can also be used by those with the “Standard” version. It includes information on developing, modifying, protecting, enhancing, and publishing PDF content. Learn to make online publications that are more useful to your users because you use the bookmark function, create online web links, highlight important content, and add useful notes and tips. Allow the PDF to be downloaded and/or printed while you protect its content. You can create titles for search engines to find, reduce and optimize files, create packets from multiple files and convert web pages to PDF
