Skype launches new unlimited plan
Internet telephony service Skype has announced a $9.95 per month plan that allows callers from the U.S to dial landlines in 34 countries including most of Europe, Canada, and Asian countries.
The only caveat, Web Worker Daily points out is that the calls must be to landlines. Mobile phone calling under this plan is available to Canada, China, and Hong Kong.
Additionally, unlimited domestic calls to the U.S. are included in this new $9.95/month plan.
TeachStreet opens in Seattle
New TeachStreet advertises itself as a place for students to find great local teachers (Seattle area only to start with). With more than 25,000 classes and teachers, TeachStreet offers many learning opportunities. The focus is on face-to-face rather than online teaching.
Teachers can use the service to build an online reputation by creating a TeachStreet profile, complete with students’ reviews. TeachStreet tools help teachers manage their business.
“TeachStreet is free and easy. We’re so excited to build a community of local learners that we’ve made all our services 100 percent free for students and teachers.” [via TechCrunch]

New tools, Web services for online collaboration
There’s no doubt that the idea of collaborating online with your scattered work team has moved from an interesting concept to the level of necessity for accomplishing the best outcomes.
Take a look at Robin Good’s new tools and web services list of online collaboration technologies. You may find some some you were unaware of.
Gizmo gets MySpace IM support
Duncan Riley at TechCrunch says that Gizmo Project offers an attractive feature set. “Gizmo has long since lost the battle against Skype to become the dominant VOIP service, however if you’re looking for a fully featured mobile IM client that also offers cheap calls it might be worth a look.”
In addition to wide IM support that makes it a competitor to Adium and Trillian, the VOIP side offers competitively priced calls to external numbers, as well as free calls to those using the SIPphone platform. File transfer and cross platform voice chat is supported for all, as well as video calling between Gizmo users only.
Test phones online before buying
Now this sounds like a great service — a free online place where you can accurately test the features of some high-end phones to help you make a decision before you buy. As Friedbeef’s Tech points out, it’s one thing to read reviews and something else to have a feeling for how the things important to you will actually work.
He laments the small number of phones currently testable at TryPhone (currently 14), but notes that they continue to add new ones. You can compare models side-by-side or take a close look at each one. The site will show you an overview of the phone (from a variety of mobile service providers), reviews when available, give you specs, demos of features, and also has a shopping cart for buyers.
TryPhone says “the goal of TryPhone is to show you how things REALLY work (not how they were designed to work) – without marketing hype – to help you make a better, more informed purchasing decision.”

Students get organized with Notely
Web app Notely is designed to help students get and stay organized. Aimed at high school, college or university types, Notely keeps track of to-do’s, classes, lecture notes, bookmarks, and calendar. The calendar is available in iCal and all your notes and lists can be exported into PDF, Word, text or CSV (Excel) files at any time, as well as RSS feeds.
There is a mobile version for easy cell phone access and a Facebook application, as well. I found the FAQ useful in answering a lot of my questions about the product. There is also a demo tour and a video at the site. [via Lifehacker]
