Questia site for more free online books

Posted by Jacque on August 24th, 2007

books.jpgHere’s another site providing free online access to books in the public domain, in this case 5,000 classics, selected scholarly works, and a complete encyclopedia.  Questia Media Inc. has made its online library of more than 5,000 classic books free to the public.

“We have a treasure trove of material we wanted to share with the world,” said Tim Harris, chief executive of Questia Media. “These are some of the greatest and most influential books ever written. We felt that only giving our paid subscribers access to these books is a disservice to the Internet community as a whole.  Now everyone can read them.”

Titles include classics such as “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” by Mark Twain, “Great Expectations” by Charles Dickens, and “The Scarlet Letter” by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

Questia also provides fee-based access and services.  With a paid or free trial subscription, readers can take notes, highlight and create instant citations and bibliographies in any of seven major styles.  Readers can search each book’s full text or Questia’s entire library of more than 70,000 books and 1.7 million articles.  [via LISNews]
