ImageAmerica acquisition; 50+ mapping resources

google-lat-long2.pngGoogle Lat Long blog announced that Google has acquired ImageAmerica, a company that builds high resolution cameras for the collection of aerial imagery.  The company can be remembered for their high resolution black and white imagery of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.

“We’re excited about how ImageAmerica’s technology will contribute to our mapping services down the road. Since we’re in the research and development phase right now it may be some time before you see any of this imagery in Google Maps or Earth — we’ll keep you posted on this blog!”

Recognizing that online mapping is an increasingly popular area, Mashable lists more than 50 useful tools.  Includes customizable and collaborative maps, tansit mapping, subject specific mapping, and popular mapping services like Ask.com Maps and Google Maps.
