PC Magazine writes about Google Calendar which has released several add-ons that allow users to insert reminders from entertainment, sports, and travel partners.
For instance, users can insert things like 2008 presidential candidate schedules from the New York Times, sports schedules from the NBA, theme park events and schedules from Disney, upcoming concerts from various record labels, or DVD releases from Netflix. Events can also be shared with family and friends.
“From the start, we wanted our Google Calendar web-based calendar service to take all the work out of ‘managing your calendar,’ and a key piece of that was making it easy to search among public calendars for interesting events,” Google said in a statement. “Think of Google Calendar gallery as an incredibly plugged-in friend who helps you remember all the hottest events, or that personal concierge you always dreamed of hiring.”
Google Operating System blog notes that Google Calendar’s directory of public calendars is structured in 8 categories: popular, TV shows, sports, events, entertainment, miscellaneous, holidays, and Google-related.
“Before subscribing to a calendar you can preview its events in a big overlayed box that can’t be closed unless you have a big monitor (tip: if you can’t see the OK button at the bottom of the box, press Enter).”
