MySpace voter hub for White House 2008

Posted by Jacque on March 20th, 2007

An article in today’s Seattle Post-Intelligencer points out the MySpace.com, the popular social networking site, has launched the Impact Channel, dedicated to the 2008 presidential election.

it’s an attempt by an Internet company to educate voters by serving as an information hub for political candidates and the public.

There are links to the personal pages or “profiles” of 10 presidential hopefuls including Democrats Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Joe Biden, and Dennis Kucinich and Republicans John McCain, Rudolph Giuliani, Duncan Hunter, Ron Paul, and Mitt Romney.

MySpace users will be able to read the candidates’ blogs, see photos and videos and, if they choose, link their favorite candidate to their friends list or put a candidate’s ad onto their own pages.

“As the country’s most trafficked Web site, MySpace will play a powerful role in the upcoming election,” Chris DeWolfe, MySpace’s chief executive said in a statement.

Other social networking sites, including Facebook, Friendster, and YouTube are being used by candidates in order to take advantage of the Internet’s potential to reach millions of voters.
